Fragments of Time

A crow-call cracks

the stony silence of years

scattered beyond

like the "apple, ball"

on my niece' broken slate.

Memory's weak fingers leaf

through some moments of life

in the deafening silence of this room

when someone suddenly stamps

crackling the leaves of memories

among the graying marbles

where long absences blur

the words of life's epitaphs.
